Our Story - Cerita Kita

Q: How did you know each other? - Gimana sih kalian ketemunya?

Y: I was at work. First time I saw her, she was going out of Boss' personal room. I thought, "Oh, boss' wife.. But wait, is she? Who is she?" –
Aku sedang di kantor. Pertama kali aku melihatnya, dia keluar dari ruangan bos. Aku pikir, "Oh, istri Pak Bos. Tapi tunggu, sepertinya bukan. Siapa dia?"

Q: Then? - Terus?

Y: I realised from Boss' photos collection on his desk. That was his eldest daughter. I got curious about her. I started my search on Friendster. And there she was, the one and only Ratna Dewanda there. So I added her. –
Aku penasaran tentang dia. Aku mulai mencari di Friendster. Di sana kutemukan satu-satunya Ratna Dewanda. Dan aku tambahkan dia ke daftar temanku.

N: I was at work. Having a break, I opened Friendster and saw some stranger added me. "Who is he?" I looked through the pics he had, and I found a clue. On one of the pic, I saw him standing behind my Dad. –
Aku sedang kerja. “Siapa dia?” Aku melihat-lihat fotonya dan aku menemukan petunjuk. Di salah satu fotonya, aku melihat dia berdiri di belakang ayahku.

Q: So, how did it go this far? – Lalu, gimana bisa sampai sejauh ini?

N: We met and went out the first time in October '08. He accompanied me shopping all day. I felt so many differences between us. Yet I thought, if I were "Yin", could he be my "Yang"? –
Kita jalan pertama kali di bulan Oktober ’08. Dia menemaniku belanja seharian.

Y: Next, her father invited me to join him doing a small research on extra curricular activities he wanted to propose for the upcoming project - big band. That was by joining him and the family attending Ninoy's lilttle sister band concert. It was in November. –

To be continued..

Ninoy's Story

When She was Born

Born in May, 1983, this little baby girl was called Ninoy. Until now, she's still commonly nicknamed as such. Not like other nicknames given by friends as someone grows up, this nickname was given after a Pinoy activist, who was murdered in the same month, the same year she was born, Ninoy Aquino.

What was it behind the nickname? Perhaps, a prayer, that this little girl would go far - like the activist, or then again, it might be just because it was catchy and fun.

And the name was Ratna Dewanda.

Growing Up

In her first years, she and her parents lived together with the grandparents, aunts and uncles. As she became one of the youngest between the members of the house , she grew up nourished with lots of love and care.

Becoming Herself

From pre-teen to a young adult, she experienced some changes: moving out from the grand family house, physically growing up (more to the weight than to the height), and different environments.

Being lovingly protected in her first years, she was determined to encounter a bigger 'world' of her own once she was old enough.

Her motto was 'If I can, why not?'

Even if that meant, looking for trouble like what she had with the deers.

In 2001, she went to Bandung to study Electrical Engineering in Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) where she learnt more than just Ohm's law. She had endless support both from family and from her mother's side grand family in Bandung and managed to finish her study in time in 2005.

Her Bigger World

After graduation, she joined one company that could help her with her mission : facing a bigger world. It was one of the global oil and gas service company. She was located in Balikpapan base until now.

Being on the drilling rig, that is what is normal for her on her first years with the company.

Not that she regretted it. She had the fun on helicopter ride, computer games, radioactive source blast, and for sure, the personnel basket ride - couple of hundred feet above mean sea level.

Other than that, she had true fun with other important components she gained in this company - friends.

Next...

As you may have noticed, she had been a 'lone-rider'- young, free and single.

Until she finally met the other half of the puzzle.

Now, she is ready to continue her life, with even better rides to enjoy and challenges to overcome. It's not going to be only hers anymore. She is willing to share.
